Fallen Angel Theatre Company presented The Custom of the Country by John Fletcher at The White Bear, Kennington in December 2007 and January 2008

Man's obsession with sex, women playing men at their own game, abuse of power.

With these themes in mind, we cordially invite you to join us on a rip-roaring adventure of a story written by one of the most popular playwrights of the Jacobean era, John Fletcher. The most recent revival of the play was the staged reading at Globe Education in 1998, so why this play and why now, after almost a decade?

The Custom of the Country, obsessed with sex, is a riotous comedy, poignant and risque by turns. Earthy banter and elevated declamations of love juxtapose to create a satirical story capable of hysterical tongue in cheek humour and sobering political points against modern-day society.

The result is an enlightening journey through the base desires of human nature to the noble virtues of idealistic love and the fact remains that, in the end, true love will win the day. Or will it? Some things never change...
